TIPS FOR USING REDMOND ROCK ON A ROPE

Here are some simple tips to introduce and help your horse get used to Rock on a Rope:

1. TIE IT AGAINST A POST
Tying Redmond Rock on a Rope tight against a post makes it easier for a horse to lick.

2. GIVE IT SOME SLACK
Giving the rope some slack creates a healthy alternative to candy balls and boredom busters in the stall.

3. TIE IT TO A FENCE
Tying Rock on a Rope to a fence outdoors keeps it out of the dirt and mud.

4. TIE IT LOWER ON A GATE
Tying it lower on a gate allows horses to maintain the posture they naturally assume when foraging.

5. USE A LITTLE MOLASSES
Pouring molasses on Rock on a Rope will encourage horses to lick if they aren’t initially interested.

WHAT MAKES REDMOND ROCK DIFFERENT FROM HIMALAYAN

Is Redmond Rock a better choice than Himalayan rock? Yes, we think so! 100% of our mineral salt is mined and packaged right here in the USA. We kind of like that. Redmond Rock also contains around 7% natural mineral content compared to 3% of most Pakistani-mined Himalayan rock.

REDMOND ROCK ON A ROPE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW LONG DOES A REDMOND ROCK HORSE LICK LAST?

On average, a 9-pound Redmond Rock lasts one horse about three months. If your horse is depleted in salt and minerals, it may consume more Redmond Rock until its body reaches a healthy mineral level. Learn more about how long Redmond Rock lasts.

DOES REDMOND ROCK DISSOLVE IN WET WEATHER?

Redmond Rock is a very dense product because Mother Nature placed it under extreme underground pressure for thousands of years. While Redmond Rock is soluble, it holds up in rain and snow much better than manufactured, pressed blocks.

CAN MY HORSE EAT TOO MUCH REDMOND ROCK SALT?

It’s possible but unlikely. Horses are very good at self-regulating salt and mineral intake by drinking water. Without water, your horse could run into trouble. Always provide access to fresh, clean water to flush out excess salt. Learn more here about how much salt to feed horses.

WHAT IF MY HORSE WON'T LICK REDMOND ROCK?

This occasionally happens. Here are a few possible reasons: Your horse doesn’t like licking things, possibly because of a sensitive tongue. (If you suspect this is the case, try switching to a Redmond loose mineral salt.) Your horse is getting enough salt and minerals from another mineral source. Your forage is exceptional and provides the minerals your horse needs.

CAN I FEED MY HORSE A REDMOND ROCK MINERAL LICK AND CRUSHED SALT PRODUCT?

Yes, you sure can! As part of our Foundational Horse Care Program, we recommend feeding both a Redmond Rock Crushed loose mineral supplement in your horse’s feed and a free-choice Redmond Rock to meet additional mineral demands. Learn more about our Foundational Horse Care Program.

REDMOND SALT VS. HIMALAYAN SALT FOR HORSES: ARE THEY THE SAME?

While these mineral salts are somewhat similar, there are key differences that set Redmond apart. Redmond Rock products are mined in the USA and sourced from one deposit we control. (We kind of like that.) Redmond Rock also contains around 7% mineral content compared to 3% of most Pakistani-mined Himalayan rock. With our salt rock, you know your horse gets more minerals with every lick. Learn more about where Redmond Rock comes from.

SHOULD I WORRY MY HORSE IS GETTING TOO MUCH IRON FROM REDMOND ROCK?

The short answer is no. Need more information? We’ve got it in this helpful article on on how much iron is in Redmond Rock.
